At the moment i'm working on an editorial project, and illustrating articles on different topics. The current piece is for New Scientist magazine, and i'm working with images from the Hubble Telescope.

Sketching the time by...

Well munchkins... I have been away on a little excursion (a very nice one!) for the last week, hence few postage. I am however back now, and have been drawing and collecting stories and stuff in the meantime, which I will probably pull out of my sleeve at a later date, like a magician! 

Until then here's Claude and one of his holiday snaps, an amusing side-project I have :P

medium sized adventures..

wow... turns out blogging is a whole chunk of difficult when you forget your password!! Needless to say, problem solved :P. 

That aside...... i am -STILL- currently working on my "mess" project.

So... i'm often inspired by the little things that crop up in my day, fall into my lap, hide in a bush and catch me by surprise....you get the gist! More often now i'm trying to use these as inspiration for illustrations, or at least to record them and keep them "on log" maybe to use at some other time, and who knows, maybe one day (or over the summer?!) I will collate them into a book. This is an idea which as I write it sounds more and more appealing, so let's see! 

Anyway...with that in mind, and because i'm taking LOTS of photos right now, here is a run down of current medium sized adventures.....

other Mother's Day...

... i work part-time in a supermarket, and amongst other things, it kind of increases my hate and real sadness about public holidays (Christmas, valentine's day etc). 


I don't want to sound old and cynical, but I know what real love is like, and what it looks like, and that's why it really irritates me seeing so many people willingly mugged over every year, buying crappy useless stuff for these holidays out of a sense of obligation!


I have this belief that if you really REALLY love someone, you should tell them every day, and show them all the time, in personal, NON-EXPENSIVE (!!) creative little ways, NOT in ways that are hugely expensive or mass-produced!!!


I guess this is probably a really unpopular view (of course, 'cause it means we need to make an effort and get off our asses to organise and do and makes things specially!) but for me that's what the essence and the remnant of these holidays is supposed to be about.... showing people who are special and lovely, that we think that they are special and lovely. 


SO.... with this in mind, for the last 2 years our house has had a kind of alternative mother's day... and today (kind of unimaginatively but it's the only day i could get off work!) we celebrated that! 


As part of other mother's day, we took my mum on a mystery tour and looked around a garden centre and in an aquarium shop and at some tents. Then we had a drink in a pub in the countryside, and took her out for dinner. It was nice, and hopefully let her know in a unique way, that she is unique and pretty special :)


....mush aside, i've started taking my camera out with me in search of "mess" and found some other strange/inspiring/ interesting and curious things that i thought i'd share. :)

kaAAABOOM!

..so i've been avoiding essay writing all week...and a half.. and tomorrow i'm gunna HAVE to start....GAH. 

In other news, i made some nice procrastination gingerbread today -dinosaur shaped!!- and had a tutorial to decide next project theme -conclusion: science and growing. Following this, i rinsed the children's section of Winton library for books on scientific related things...for which battle will probably commence tomorrow morning or Saturday on my lunch break. [Thanks Cal for the company :)]

Throughout the day I also checked in and out of Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave's Red-Nose-World-Record-Radio-Show (great job, respect to them) and found an interesting photographic blog: http://meetmeat9.tumblr.com/ (see images below). The photographer has an element of Mark Borthwick about her work.

Linda McCartney, a new brief, Bob Dylan, the pie maker and a camera.

yesterday we got our new project brief - self-initiated creative practice- and in searching for inspiration i rediscovered my love of Linda McCartney photography. Looking through her photos, I love her talent for capturing the real essence of her subjects and creating images that
reflect that in their funny, natural presence. In her book "Linda's Pictures" there is a really interesting
juxtaposition of  

"commercial" alternative portraiture, and warm, deeply natural and homely imagery. I love her ability to seemlessly capture small and quirky moments, and share them with everyone through her work. It just makes me sad that like the good Bob Dylan and the Pie Maker (what an amazing name for a book!) Linda is gone too. Maybe her, talented Bob, and Chuck, Olive, and Emerson are all eating pie somewhere with Jimmy Hendrix playing in the background?!


...Whilst I doubt it, i would like that.... and if nothing else it would make a great photograph. :P
